This past weekend seems to have been made for musical lovers- what with the American Music Awards, John Legend’s All of Me Tour, and not forgetting lastly, the finale of the 10th Season of Idols being aired last night. What a treat! Starting off with the big award show, the annual AMAs took place at the Los Angeles Nokia Theatre this past Sunday and while the show is on a much smaller scale as compared to the likes of MTV Music Awards, it definitely did not disappoint! Hosted by rapper/singer Pitbull, the star-studded event saw newcomer Iggy Azalea walk away with the “Best Rap/Hip Hop” Artist and Album gongs- her first ever accolades since bursting onto the music scene. This is a pretty big feat, especially considering that she was up against some heavyweights like Eminem and Drake! Girl Power right there! girls       Now what would an award show be without some memorable performances, and of course the customary “wardrobe malfunctions” that some of your favourite artists experience? During the first ever live performance of her new single “La Love”, Fergie almost flashed the entire world when her jacket accidentally got stuck to her onesie as she was trying to seductively take it off. Talk about a close call! Another stand-out performance of the night was definitely the closing number by J-Lo and Iggy. Performing their upbeat track “Big Booty” also for the first time live on television, the “bootiful” pair certainly raised the temperatures! It’s hard to believe that J-Lo is 45 with that tight physique. The Latino siren gives women half her age a run for their money. She may not be the greatest vocalist out there, but her dance moves and overall performance energy more than make up for those pitchy vocals.       ssssss Closer to home, fans of R&B crooner were treated to a series of sold out concerts courtesy of Mr Legend himself. Having been in the country numerous times before, it seems John has found a second home away from home- and we certainly wouldn’t complain if he sought to relocate to our shores, even if for a few weeks a year. The concert series came to a close on Sunday night at the Coca-Cola Dome in the north of Johannesburg, after having serenaded fans at the Mother City’s Grand West Arena on the 16th and 17th of this month, as well as giving the ladies (and some men) heart palpitations a night to remember at the Moses Mabhida Stadium a few days prior. John was also spotted taking a breather from the stage with his lovely bride Chrissy Teigan. Doing all the typical tourist activities, the still blissfully-wedded couple took a game drive during a Safari, and paid a visit to all the popular landmarks. The leggy model captured all their adorable moments on her Instagram page, even posting a picture of her and her husband enjoying some KFC in bed. See, they already enjoy a local favourite so they might as well get that relocation process started. Wishful thinking? Yes? Well a girl can only dream… jl jl2 Speaking of dreams, Sunday night marked a turning point in one Vincent Bones’ life. The 30-year old singer’s life-long dream of taking the title of South African Idol became a reality when he beat fellow hopeful Bongi Silinda in the tightly-contested 10th season of the talent search show. idl What made the evening more special for Vincent and those whose hearts he touched throughout his journey is the Pietermaritzburg-based worship leader’s story of having had a rough start to life. After the deaths of both his mother and uncle’s when he was just a young boy, Vincent was forced to fend for himself on the rough streets of Sunnyside, Pretoria. He was eventually put into Boys Town where he was able to complete his schooling and today his musical skillset includes being able to play the piano, base, drums and saxophone. Congrats to Vincent- we can only hope that he takes advantage of the platform that Idols has provided as well as the momentum and hype around him. Otherwise he may just disappear into the abyss of the music and entertainment industry like Mzansi’s it-girls, Minnie Dlamini graces the cover of the December issue of the iconic True Love magazine. Shot on location in New York City, the magazine went all out for this edition. Inside the covers Minnie opens up about her personal life, more specifically about her on-off relationship with the country’s number one goal keeper Itumeleng Khune. Admitting that the relationship has officially ended, the actress and TV presenter refused to divulge any further details about what actually broke the pair up- although sources close to the couple allege that the number one’s wandering eye plus that embarrassing incident when he was accused of inappropriately touching Minnie’s “frenemy” Bonang in a popular nightclub a while ago, are what finally broke the camel’s back and pushed the starlet to kick him to the curb! md The young couple’s love affair became tabloid fodder as rumours of infidelity often crept up, with various women publicly claiming to have been with Khune while he was with Minnie. Though they tried to keep their relationship on the down low for a while, it didn’t take long before they started posting loved-up pictures of themselves on their many travels, at various media or sports events, as well as doing all the normal things that young couples get up to. A quick browse through both of their social media accounts tells a different story though- with all the traces of their once whirlwind romance now deleted from their respective accounts. In the magazine Minnie talks about the heartbreak and pain of moving on, highlighting that although she was still a hopeless romantic, her career was now her main focus. Well we’ll be watching her star continue to rise, and keep a lookout for any new projects she’s involved in- or new love interests!
