Shutdown takes place at CPUT. Opinion: The South African students have been affected by the increases in the tuition fees in all over the past years. The unreasonable increases on the fees had been an ongoing issue that affects the whole South African students. However, the issue has been rising in the country. Students studying towards the debts should not be a norm in our public institutions. South African government needs to intervene on the issue of the unreasonable increase in our fees in the public institutions. The government often speaks about empowering the Youth to study, meanwhile we building future over debts that are close to R200 000 and more which needs to be paid off once we finish school. Nonetheless, it is the government’s duty to intervene on the issue, and promote free education for all. At the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) a 10% increase in 2016 is expected to take place. Students are fighting over that to not take place. This is a reminder of what has taken place in the past during the apartheid system when the black students fought for the better conditions in education. Thus, our duties as the 21st century students’ needs to stand up for our rights and make sure these increases in our public institutions FALL.

Our heroes have fought for us, and now we fighting for the next generation to receive a better conditions too in education which needs to start now. The struggle continues in our South African institutions. If our government was able to spend R13.61 billion in hosting World cup, nothing should stop from contributing so much for the future of a South African child that needs to change situation at home and make parents proud. The ‘Increase Must Fall’ should now be regarded as the National Campaign which all structures are in support of and every university affected must shut down and fight these unreasonable fees that we being charged in our own country. The NGOs and other structures that always fight for better education should come in and support the fighting of increases we are facing as students. Students should not pay more than what we already paying. However, the high price of our fees government needs to do something about them. Our struggle continues…….. #FeesMustFall By Sizwe Zubenathi Mapapu
