Some people think students have loads of free time. They think, because you only have a few lectures and pracs a day, the rest of your day is yours to spend as you choose. Those people are obviously wrong. Being a student is about more than simply attending classes. You have assignments due, tests scheduled and a hundred other things to think about on a daily basis. In fact, your free time can become quite limited towards the end of the term. You’ll find, as exams approach, you have less and less time for activities that are unrelated to your coursework.    Don’t oversleep Sleeping is great. In fact, it’s a necessity. But you shouldn’t waste all your free time hitting the snooze button or napping on lounge suites. If you want to do cool things, you have to be awake to do them. So, get up when your alarm goes off, no matter how much you want to finish that awesome dream about having your student loans paid off. Get a good night’s sleep but don’t waste your morning in bed. While it may feel great at the time, you’ll regret it later when you miss out on doing something really fun.   Only agree to things you want to do Okay, so this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t help a friend in need just because you don’t feel like it. What it does mean is that you shouldn’t go to a party simply because you were invited. You don’t have to say yes to every suggestion. Don’t force yourself to go out when you’d rather hang out at home with your bestie. Making the most of your free time means using it wisely.   Plan ahead Planning ahead is important if you want to make time to enjoy yourself. We all want to be spontaneous but, when time is limited, you have know what you’re doing and when you’re doing it. If you want to make it for that afternoon beer with your friend, you have to make sure you’ve already finished your assignments. Time management is also really important so you can make more time available for the things you enjoy in life. Just because you’re focussed on your studies right now, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your life at the same time. So, make the most of your free time by waking up on time, doing the things you actually want to do and planning ahead. Image: Pexels
