By Makhalanyane Matshidiso Academic activities at the University of the Free State Qwaqwa campus will continue next week. However, the University reoponed residences yesterday on Wednesday 18 May 2016 from 12:00 for occupation by registered students. This is after the campus was closed during students protest where they handed the memorandum of their demands last week. The campus was closed on Thursday 12 May 2016 due to disruptions and protests. Nondumiso Langa, student Representative council`s Secretary, thanked students for their patience and mentioned that campus, Prof. Prakash Naidoo, will respond to their memorandum this coming Friday. "We have reached an agreement for next week: students can write tests, submit assignments and finalise all their academic activities with their lecturers for the upcoming exams. The campus principal, Prof. Prakash Naidoo, will read out the official responses from the university`s management on Friday. The time and venue will still be communicated to students in order for them to be present and to listen to the management`s response regarding our memorandum of demands. We can then afterwards reach an agreement or consensus by finding a way forward." Strict access to the campus will be ensured and students and stuff must carry their access cards with them at all times.
