BY Matshidiso Makhalanyane Prof Jonathan Jansen, Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the University of the Free State welcomed prospective students as part of the open day held on 14 may 2016. He welcome them with these words, "There is a great deal of political and financial pressure on Universities in South Africa, and that is exactly why the country`s future leaders need to be trained at the top Universities." Learners were welcomed at the campus as they learned more about different career paths and were also showed how things worked at tertiary level. learners were able to see that UFS is where they will pursue their dreams. they were looking forward to being part of Kovsie family. prof went on to say that graduating gives students a Kovsie degree and also helps them become decent human beings. He encouraged students to be as humble as the world 400m champion, Wayde van Niekerk and to love like Tanya Calitz, the Kovsie Dux of 2015. They are regarded as examples of what being a true Kovsie is. At the hall there was also on-side applications and a stall with KovsieGear merchandise. in the main building, parents were able to meet Prof Jansen. "The UFS Faculty of Education is a training centre for leaders.
