5 ways to help you be more positive this winter
Sometimes life can get a little much. Studies, family, friends and a social life can all really take it out of you. It can be easy to start to feel a little negative and like it’s all a little too much. That’s why it’s important to try be more positive. Here are some tips to help you have more fun and stop being so stressed. 1. Practice gratitude Sometimes when you’re feeling negative, you can improve your mood by simply pausing for a moment, taking a deep breath and reminding yourself that you should be positive. Remember the good things in your life, the things that you’re grateful for, and you’ll soon feel better. And once you’re feeling better, everything you do will be more successful. Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar says: “Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” 2. Believe in yourself Remember that you're capable of achieving your goals. Know that you’re on the path to your future. How you treat yourself will become a habit. So, if you treat yourself badly, you will begin to see yourself in a negative light. It was philosopher Lao Tzu who said: “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” 3. Make a list of your successes Whether you aced that maths exam, passed that assignment demonstrating how you’d secure equipment finance for a startup or even remembering how you were accepted to university all those years ago, take a moment to think about how awesome you are. 4. Associate with positive people Positivity is something which tends to spread. Spend some time with positive people and you’ll soon start to feel the same way. That’ll make you feel more positive about everything else going on in your life. “When you are enthusiastic about what you do, you feel this positive energy. It's very simple,” says writer Paulo Coelho. Lastly, if you’re still not feeling the positivity, simply fake it. Pretend you’re feeling happy and confident. Many people find negative thinking to be the easiest option. Don’t fall into that trap. Make the choice to be positive about life and you’ll soon find you’re enjoying things a whole lot more.
