Clear your head So, you’ve been back at varsity for a few weeks now. The relaxing mid-year holiday seems like a distant memory and the stress is starting to set in again. The coursework is being piled on and assignments are being handed out. It’s hard to have fun when you’re under this much pressure. But having fun is important. You can’t just study and go to class and call that a life. You need things outside of school in order to feel like a human being. But, when you’re constantly worrying about deadlines and tests, this can be difficult. That’s why you need to clear your head every now and then. And what better time to start doing that than this weekend? Here are some simple ways to feel like everything's under control so you can begin to enjoy the little things again. Get some fresh air You don’t need to be a fitness fanatic or the outdoorsy type to enjoy some fresh air. Being out in the open is a great way to get some perspective on life. And, if you sweat a little, that’s even better. Why not go for a walk and explore your neighbourhood (or campus if you live in res)? It won’t take too much time out of your busy schedule. Alternatively, make a day of it and go for a hike. Call up your friends, grab some snacks for a picnic and head up a mountain. Just remember to take enough water. Organise your life A big cause of anxiety among students is having too much going on at once. It feels like everything is happening all at the same time. But if you take an hour to properly plan, you can get everything under control. Knowing what you need to do and when you need to do it can really help you relax. Whether you use the digital calendar on your phone or laptop or use an actual diary, take some time to get it all down. If you have conflicting deadlines, dedicate different tasks to different days so you don’t have to worry about both assignments on the same day. Schedule when you need to study and when you have some free time. Everything will feel a lot more manageable when you’re done. Clean up your living space Maybe your digs’ kitchen really needs a good scrubbing or perhaps you just need to tidy your res room. Either way, spend some time cleaning up your living area. If you live in a chaotic mess, chances are your head will also be a chaotic mess. So, get out your cleaning equipment or simply fold your bedding sets. It will make you feel a lot more comfortable in your personal space. Once you’ve cleared your head, you’ll find it’s a lot easier to have fun. So try one of these (or all three) this weekend!
