productive             Being productive is about getting more done in a shorter amount of time. And who wouldn’t want that? As a student, your days are likely jam-packed with classes, studying, spending time with friends and, you know, the small matter of getting ready for your future. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your days. 1. Get out of your way How many times do you put something off because it seems difficult? Probably all the time. That’s because we put off what seems uncomfortable. We hide our heads in the sand, like an ostrich, and pretend it’s not there, choosing to complete tasks which we know we can easily finish. You need to learn to get out of your own way and tackle the most important and difficult tasks first. Time management experts often recommend you do these tasks first thing in the morning. Consider completing time management or project management training courses so that you can identify how to tackle tasks and ultimately master productivity. 2. Stop multitasking It’s long been thought that to be productive you have to do many different things at the same time. Stop it. Research has found that our brain takes 20 minutes to focus on a task after being distracted. Rather, do one thing at a time and do it well. Leadership expert Robin Sharma says: “New research confirms that all the distractions invading our lives are rewiring the way our brains work (and drop our IQ by 5 points!). Be one of the rare-air few who develops the mental and physical discipline to have a mono-maniacal focus on one thing for many hours. (It’s all about practice).” 3. Change the way you talk to yourself The language you use to talk to yourself is important for influencing your mood and ability to complete tasks. Instead of telling yourself that you're stressed and have no idea how to complete a task, ask yourself what you can do to get those tasks done as soon as possible. How can you change the way you talk to yourself to be more productive? 4. Identify the things that steal your time We all have time thieves, but most of us don’t know what ours are. If you’re able to identify your time thieves, the activities or situations, that steal your time, you’ll be able to get so much more done. These could be something like obsessively checking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat every few minutes. It could be having to go outside to have a cigarette every half hour.
