Third year LLB student Mamiki Khunou, (20), has been selected as an academic mentor at CampusKey Bloemfontein. As the leading provider of secure student accommodation, CampusKey’s model has been developed with the well-being of their students in mind.   Born and raised in Bethlehem, Khunou completed her schooling at Paul Erasmus High School in Senekal, after which she moved to QwaQwa, where she lives with her mom and grandmother during the holidays. “I chose to be an academic mentor as I struggled quite a bit during my first year. I want to help our first year students feel informed, empowered and comfortable. Furthermore, I want to introduce them to university life, assist them with their study timetables, host educational talks and offer tips on writing assignments. I want their academic years to be less stressful by always making time for them when they need me.”   Khunou thoroughly enjoys her stay at CampusKey. “It’s my second year at CampusKey and the memories are remarkable. Last year’s pyjama party was one of my highlights and so far this year, I really enjoyed the talent show and formal party. CampusKey offers everything one needs including   personal space, study areas, a gym, a clubhouse where you can hang out with friends, braai areas, and most importantly, excellent security. Everything about staying at CampusKey is just amazing. I highly recommend it to everyone.”   Being a mentor will be one of her highlights this year. She explains: “It’s my very first job in my entire existence and I really look forward to making a difference. I want to become the best of version of myself and grow and learn as much as possible. Obviously my studies are my number one priority, but I’m good at time management and prioritising. I always manage to make time for family, friends and hobbies such as netball, reading and cooking. I also enjoy shopping in my free time.”   Khunou’s ambitions this year is to become one of the Golden Key members, be the best mentor and get four distinctions. “I’m humble, loving, a peace maker and hard worker. I want to enjoy life, be happy and do the best I can.”   CampusKey offers locations throughout South Africa, including Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Potchefstroom, Pretoria and Stellenbosch.
