Bachelor of Education student Emma Albers (20), has been selected as a mentor at CampusKey Pretoria. As the leading provider of secure student accommodation, CampusKey’s model has been developed with the well-being of their students in mind. Currently in her second year, Albers was born in Botswana and moved to South Africa at the age of seven. “I completed my schooling at Kingswood College in Grahamstown and am currently studying towards my B. Ed. I really want to make a difference using the most powerful tool there is - education. I’m doing senior phase and Further Education and Training (FET), majoring in Life Orientation, Physical Education, Business Studies and History. As the Social Media and Events mentor, Albers will need to ensure that CampusKey students are aware of everything happening at CampusKey and on campus. “My main responsibility will be to bring all the students together to meet new people and have a great time! I’m confident that I’ll be able handle it as I’m friendly and outgoing. I also really enjoy planning events and hope the students will like what we have on the calendar this year. I want to get more students involved in our events as well as in CampusKey itself. My aim is to set a good example for the other students and help us become a tight-knit community.” Albers has really enjoyed her time staying at CampusKey so far. “I would definitely recommend it to students starting their tertiary studies. It has such an awesome vibe and gives you many opportunities to meet different people from different places and backgrounds. It’s your home-away-from-home and there’s such a great vibe. It also offers all the facilities you need at a reasonable price.” It comes as no surprise that she enjoys spending her free time with friends and family. “I also like going to the gym and watching series. I balance my life by attending lectures during the day and doing two to four hours of work when I’m back at CampusKey. The extra time I have left is for personal matters and enjoying life.” Albers would like to improve her marks in some subjects this year. “I’d like to get more distinctions, meet new people and make friends, and really make a difference in the community.” CampusKey offers locations throughout South Africa, including Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Potchefstroom, Pretoria and Stellenbosch.
